Karrikin To Begin Canning Dark Lager

In an effort to appease the demands of beer drinkers far and wide (throughout the Queen City), Karrikin Spirits Company will begin canning taproom favorite, Dark Lager, November 3rd.

Only preceded by a pilsner and a Citra IPA, Dark Lager will be Karrikin’s third canned beer, influenced by taproom demand and customer feedback. Dark Lager will join Pils and Citra IPA in retail locations, bars, and restaurants around the Greater Cincinnati area the week of November 3rd.

A Story To Go Along With The Beer

While it’s been draft at Karrikin for nearly one year, Dark Lager’s story begins with owners Eric and Rebecca Baumann on a trip to Europe in Fall 2019.

“We always wanted to go to the Czech Republic, specifically for the beer,” says Eric Baumann, brewmaster at Karrikin. “Through our travels, we were advised to go to U Fleků, one of the oldest brewpubs in the region, specializing in dark lager.”

According to the brewpub’s website, it celebrates its 520th anniversary this year. Enchanted by the beer and atmosphere, the Baumann’s delved into the region’s storied history of lager brewing.

“We were taken aback by the rich brewing tradition there,” says Baumann. “I wanted to come back here and bring this beer to life — an homage to our travels and something Rebecca and I can enjoy together while reminiscing about that special trip.”

The Karrikin Dark Lager can is part of a retro trilogy of designs, created with a minimalistic approach. “As the retail shelves become more crowded, we are trying to find ways to stand apart from other brands,” said Matt Groves, Director of Marketing at Karrikin.

The can was designed by John Pattison, Karrikin co-founder and Creative Director.

Dark Lager is brewed with dehusked roasted, Munich, and Pilsner malts along with Czech Saaz hops.
